Flag News November 2008

We have 2 new members for area VI- they are old members, but from a different area before this.-moved to Ormond from Orlando. Fred and Roseanne Samuelson. Their new address is 113 Timberlane Trail Ormond Beach, Fl. 32174 Ph: 386 677-6665. They have no e-mail, so this is the only way to contact them.

Roseanne Samuelson's work was selected to be featured in The Artist Magazine for the March 2009 issue. The call was for artists over 60, and she was one of 10 selected.




Maribel Angel, Sydney McKenna, and Karen Sheridan (not a member) are having an exhibit “La Florida” at Butterfield Gallery opening 12/05/08 with a reception from 5 to 9PM concurrent with First Friday Art Walk. They are joining up for this show because all three are in the “Picturing Florida” book.


Sydney McKenna will be having an exhibit opening May 2, 2009 at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. Sydney will be paired with Orlando sculptor Marcia DeBroske.

Upcoming venues confirmed: 2009 Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs. Also in 2009 Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, in 2011 Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture. Unconfirmed, with no regrets, yet, Appleton Museum of Art, Ocala, requested 2010 and 2011. Maitland Art Center, 2008.

We are so proud of the professional quality of the newly elected members.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Arrangements have been made for the 58th Annual Exhibition of
FLAG at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in the Spring of 2009. The
dates of the exhibition will be May 2 through July 19, 2009. The
Symposium is scheduled for Friday May l and Saturday May 2.
Washington DC artist Sam Gilliam has been invited to be Juror
of Awards. He was the first painter to introduce the idea of the
unsupported canvas. His works can be seen in the collections of the
Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Phillips Collection and National Gallery
of art, in Washington, DC, Art Institute of Chicago, Whitney Museum
of American Art, New York , The Tate Gallery in London among others
too numerous to mention. An Exhibition of his work is at the Zora Neale
Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts in Eatonville, Florida thru
August 24th.

The Florida Artist Group will also have an Exhibition at the
Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach September 12 – October 3,
2009. Our catalog was invaluable to museum directors in their choice
of the Florida Artist Group.

The next Board meeting will be on October 25, 2008 at the
Maitland Art Center, 231 West Packwood Avenue, Maitland, FL 32751.
The meeting will begin promptly at 11:00 am. We’ll have lunch nearby.

Jeffrey Smart Baisden was one of three colored pencil artists featured at the Wendy Tatter Gallery in St. Augustine January 25 - 28, 2008. She exhibited 9 colored pencil drawings.

The drawing "The Forward Observer" has been juried into the Colored Pencil Society of America's 16th International Exhibition to be held July 2 - September 29, 2008 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle. She has been accepted in 13 of the 16 CPSA International Exhibitions.

Jeffrey is one of four artists invited to exhibit in the group show "It's All About the Media" at the Marco Island Center For The Arts October 5 - November 15, 2008, Marco Island, Florida.

FLAG Area VI News

FLAG Area VI News letter: Jean Troemel,a suvivor of breast cancer was included in an exhibition and fund raiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in September.Ten survivor artists each donated an original art work to the cause which created much attention healthwise and artwise and was considered a financial success for northeast Florida.



Gretchen Ebersol has 8 works on exhibit at the 5th Annual Invitational Exhibit at the Women's Center of Jacksonville. Gretchen



Linda Blondheim is participating in several upcoming events: “Country Roads” exhibit at the Leesburg Art Center Nov.1-Dec.15,

“Art in the House" (an open house featuring her work)

her “Annual Chili Bash” at her studio, and 3 paint-outs: Wekiva River in March, Epcot Center and “Heart of Florida” in April

Beau Redmond had a successful exhibit at “Arts on Douglas” in New Smyrna, with many sales

Sydney McKenna was recently commissioned by Mayo Clinic to paint two large oil paintings for their new Hospice Chapels.

She will be having an exhibit at Butterfield Garage Gallery in St. Augustine opening Nov.2, running through the month, and is scheduled for an exhibit at the Jacksonville International Airport’s Haskell Gallery for April, May and June of 2008.



Wendy Tatter and Jo Sinclair have elected to discontinue their membership. We will miss them

We juried 18 applicants, and had 13 accepted.

In our area, Barbara Wagner of New Smyrna is a new member. Welcome Barbara!



Our other new members statewide are Nadine Meyers Saitlin, Howard L. Cowdrick, Pamela Miles, Cheryl Bogdanowitsch, Lynne Hughes, Barbara Leto, Fred Samuelson, Rose Ann Samuelson, Henry Sinn, Janet Mach Dutton, Bettina Edwards, Idith Levy.

Exhibition Schedule:

Our president, Ahlin is in contact with the Maitland Art Center about the potential for an October 2008 symposium, but does not have an answer yet.

Joyce Novak wrote a fine letter to the Appleton Museum in Ocala. They will let us know in a week if we may exhibit there in the years 09,10 or 11.

Joyce also offered to send inquiries to the Ringling Museum of Art. She said that FLAG had exhibited there in our past.

It was suggested that another venue might be the De Land Museum of Art in Volusia County for 2012.

Maribel Angel submitted 2 designs for FLAG brochures. Both are beautiful and our plans are to merge qualities of each, for a tri-fold brochure.
