FLAG NEWS June 22,2009

Hi everyone,

Here's what's happening in the middle of our blistering summer.

1. Robert York and I have established an official exhibition policy statement. I've put it into force for the West Palm Beach Armory exhibition but you'll have to make a final approval at our board meeting on November 14 in Orlando at 10:00 am. The policy is attached to this email for your study.

2. Joan Klutch has all but a few details set for the Symposium on Sanibel Island January 9-10. Dan Weldon, a noted printmaker will be our juror. He will conduct a workshop and participate in a panel discussion. There is a size limitation of 36" x 36" for this exhibition. The prospectus is nearly ready for printing and we'll get it out as soon as possible. It may appear on the web site fairly soon. This should be a fabulous venue for our Symposium.

3. We have a firm offer and will be exhibiting at the Selby Gallery of the Ringling School in May of 2012. This is not a Symposium but will be an auxiliary state wide exhibition.

We have a firm offer to exhibit at the Cornell in Del Ray Beach in April - May of 2011 but the space will limit us to 40 works so it may not be suitable for a symposium. It will either be a juried exhibition or an Area I&II + Board exhibition. The Coral Springs gallery liked our Area show in their lobby and they want us for the main gallery. Cecily is talking to them about hosting the Symposium in 2012 but we won't know for sure about this until after the West Palm Beach Armory show.

Longboat Key has indicated interest in hosting our Symposium after seeing our catalogs and noting how we have workships and the juror's remarks. Ahlin and Richard Cowdrick are following up on this for the 2011 Symposium. Ahlin is still in discussion with the Maitland Art center and is sure we'll eventually be able to have an exhibition there.

Mindy Colton has approached the Museum of Florida Art about an exhibition or Symposium sometime in te future but they are currently in a state of flux and unable to make any commitments.

Everyone needs to keep eyes open for possible venues whether for Area shows or for state-wide exhibitons.

4. My friend, David Chang, professor of art at Florida International University in Miami is interested in becoming a member and will help us identify other good artists in the Miami area as prospective members. David is planning on coming to the West Palm Beach Armory exhibition reception to see the work and meet some of our members. Anjal is willing to have someone from the Miami area as her co-chair of Area I.

5. If you haven't looked at the web site recently, please do. Images of the award winners from the Leepa/Ratner Museum in Tarpon Springs are there to see. It looks great! Thanks to Roberta!

6. Cheryl Anne Day-Swallow is starting work on the next newsletter so get your information to her asap.

Hope the rest of your summer is profitable and art centered.
